Our Last Week in Baku

View from our apartment window

I’ll summarize our last week in Baku. Friday, my siblings attended their last class at School #6 as well as finished their end of the year exams. Friday was also the last day that Mom went to ADA University.

Saturday, we explored Old City for the last time. We all did last minute shopping for our friends and family. After spending an hour shopping and wandering the cobblestoned streets, we grabbed some infused water, from a little stand. We passed the bakery where we would frequently grab sweet treats that we ate the following breakfast. We walked the alley that our apartment was on one more time.

Sunday, we took a number 5 bus all the way to the National Flag Square. Near the gigantic flag was a restaurant called Maya Mexican Restaurant and Bar. The food was plated absolutely beautifully and tasted so delicious. After lunch, we walked to the National Flag Square to marvel at one of the largest flags in the entire world. It was eye opening to realize that we saw this flag from our apartment, but until we were up close, we had no idea how big this flag really was. Next stop was the Ferris Wheel. Mom watched us as the four of us ascended to upward. From the top, we were able to see Baku from a perspective that we have never seen it before.

Monday, we ate lunch at Espressamente illy Baku. Espressamente illy Baku was a beautiful little cafe, where you could sit outside under umbrellas while eating your meal. Later that night, we (Hannah, Mom and I) went down to the Bubble Waffle Cafe for some tea and a chocolate, strawberry waffle treat. If you thought that Baku was beautiful during the day, you better believe that it is even more beautiful at night. The lights lit up Nizami Street and the people wandering the street made it look like something out of a movie.

Hannah's coffee. I'm not quite sure what she got, but she liked it. To be honest I'm not that knowledgeable in the world of coffee.

Tuesday was our last full day in Baku so we tried to do as much as possible. We took a number 5 bus to the Funicular. Mom, Hannah and I rode the Funicular up to Dagustu Park. We gazed at the city behind the marble balcony. We were able to see our apartment building from where we stood. On our way back to the bus stop, we noticed that the street was completely empty of cars and was filled with policemen. About ten minutes of wondering what was happening, we saw an entourage of police cars and black vehicles. At that moment, we realized that the President of Azerbaijan was passing through the city for an opening ceremony of some property. We rode the number 5 bus for the last time. For our last night in Baku, we ordered pizza from Bella’s Pizza.

Wednesday, we said our final goodbyes to beautiful Baku! Very early in the morning, we left for the airport. Our trip back was very similar to the flights to Baku so I won't describe all of them.
